Where it all began…

Jake was born exactly a week early. I had finished work and was feeling pretty uncomfortable. I went up after tea to give Aneya a kiss and she wanted a hug. As I lifted her up it broke my waters. I shouted to Jamie to let him know and ran to the toilet. Nothing else seemed to happen other then I knew my waters had partially gone so we all got into bed and I rang the labour ward to let them know and get advise. They wanted me to go up because of the birth I had with Aneya, as a precaution but said not to rush as I had no signs of labour. So we laid there for a moment and rang my parents to let them know we were on our way to drop Aneya. All of a sudden my waters went again and I had the biggest contraction. We had to tell Aneya “mummy wet the bed” as she didn’t understand only being 2 and a half at the time 😂 (she still tells everyone now I wet the bed 🤦🏻‍♀️) from that moment on I had contractions every couple of mins, almost rolling ones but not quite. By the time we got to my parents the pain was excruciating, but not wanting to scare Aneya and me knowing this hug with her would be my last of her being an only child I wanted to try and face it. In true Claire fashion, there wasn’t any petrol in our car so I was panicking we weren’t going to make it to the hospital. We did 😁. When we got there we went in the lift with me not having any breaks in between contractions now, then got out of the wrong floor….I was not amused. Once we finally got to the right floor and door, the midwifes could not believe I was the same girl who rang half an hour earlier! I was asking for an epidural as soon as I walked in the door. They hooked me up to the machines and it showed I was contracting 100% but I was 0 cm dilated. Oops, he wasn’t meant to be coming yet and me lifting Aneya, brought on labour. 3 hours in and he wasn’t happy so they decided to deliver him by emergency section. He arrived, although not breathing for 10mins on his own, safely into the world at 3.29am on the 14.01.16. He was perfect, our little boy! Jake Kevin David Burton weighing a cute 6lbs 6oz. Aneya came to the hospital and met her baby brother and she loved him. Jamie finally had his rugby player he’d longed for! In those first few weeks we both spoke about what life we’d hoped he have, that Jamie would coach his Sunday rugby team and what job he’d do (as all parents do) At this moment, life felt incredible. We had our perfect family of a gorgeous girl and gorgeous boy. Nothing could ruin it!…right?
